I want to score goals - Mbappe opens up after scoring a hat-trick
Kylian Mbappé delivered a mesmerising performance, bagging a stunning hat-trick to help Real Madrid to a dominant 5-0 victory over Kairat Almaty in the Champions League on Tuesday.
However, despite the clinical display and reaching a season total of 13 goals, the 26-year-old French superstar still expressed frustration over missed opportunities, insisting he must be even more lethal in front of goal.
The early lead came from a penalty, followed by a second goal in the 52nd minute. The Frenchman then completed his hat-trick with a powerful, long-range effort in the 73rd minute.
What Mbappe said
Despite the heroics, the reigning European Golden Boot winner’s post-match comments revealed a relentless pursuit of perfection.
He made it clear that converting all chances is his core responsibility.
"It's normal that I get angry about mistakes, a player like me with five chances... I want to score five goals and I have to score five goals, that's why Madrid bought me," Mbappé told reporters.
He added, "Three is great, but I could have scored more, I'm going to work to be more efficient in front of the goal."
Mbappé was quick to acknowledge the role of his teammates in the victory, particularly goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, whose exceptional long pass set up his second goal.
"Courtois's pass... I don't know if he did it intentionally, but it's a tremendous pass. He scored 80% of the goal, and I scored 20," he stated.
The Frenchman also spoke positively about his growing understanding with young talent Arda Güler, who has been impressing with his integration into the squad.
"I have a good connection with Arda; he's a player with a lot of quality and great talent," Mbappé commented.
The emphatic European performance provides a necessary boost of confidence as Real Madrid attempts to rebound from their recent 5-2 La Liga hammering by rivals Atletico Madrid.
