'I want to be at the World Cup' - Victor Osimhen sends message to Gabon

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has pledged that Nigeria will be at the World Cup.

The Galatasaray striker said he will continue with his prolific goalscoring form for the Super Eagles as he prepares for a crucial series of matches in the coming weeks.

Osimhen has enjoyed a sensational start to the 2025–26 season, finding the net nine times in all competitions. His contributions have been vital in maintaining Galatasaray's undefeated run in the Turkish Super Lig and securing Nigeria's place in the World Cup playoffs.

The Super Eagles sealed their spot with a dominant 4–0 victory over the Benin Republic, setting up a decisive semi-final showdown against Gabon in November.

For Osimhen, who was absent from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, qualifying for the 2026 tournament in North America is a significant personal goal.

"We have many goals as a club. We need to work hard and fight for these goals. I want to be in the World Cup with my country. I am giving my all there too. My focus is here now. Next month is the World Cup playoffs. I will help my teammates with my goals, assists and everything," Osimhen said via Sporx.

Osimhen already holds the record as Nigeria’s all-time leading scorer in both the Turkish Super Lig, with 43 goals, and the Champions League, with 12 goals.
