‘I showed I can still play here’ - De Bruyne sends clear message to Man City executives
The Belgian international saw his team through a difficult Wolverhampton Wanderers team, narrowly escaping with a 10-0 victory on Friday night.
The City captain scored the winning goal, bringing Pep Guardiola's team significantly closer to securing Champions League qualification.
The victory made it five wins in a row for Guardiola's side, following a difficult campaign that saw them fail to challenge for the EPL title.
De Bruyne’s comment after Wolves win
De Bruyne believes he still has the ability to significantly contribute in the Premier League, suggesting the possibility of him moving to an English club.
He said, as reported by the Mirror, “I showed I can still play here (in the Premier League) otherwise I don’t do what I have done in these last four or five weeks.
“Obviously I know I’ve got one game left here (at the Etihad), but I just try to do my job like I’ve always done and I did that today, so I am proud of what I am doing. I give everything and I want to win the game.”
De Bruyne also acknowledged that his upcoming exit has been met with displeasure within the team.
“A lot of team-mates have spoken to me and I think they are also sad that I have to go but sometimes it goes like this.”
With the season coming to an end in the next few weeks, the Man City star is yet to decide on his next destination.
