'I owe him a gift' - Onyedika hails Chukwueze after Uganda win
Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika has showered praise on teammate Samuel Chukwueze, admitting the winger deserves a special gift for his decisive role in his international goals for Nigeria.
Onyedika was on target twice as Nigeria sealed a 3-1 victory over Uganda’s Cranes on Tuesday night at the Complexe Sportif de Fès. This result wrapped up the Super Eagles’ Group C campaign at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Chukwueze–Onyedika partnership
Both of Onyedika’s goals against Uganda were created by Chukwueze, the Fulham star, who also provided the assist for Onyedika’s first-ever international goal, scored against the Benin Republic in June 2024.
In total, the 24-year-old midfielder has now scored three goals in 19 appearances for the three-time African champions, with every single goal coming from an assist by the former AC Milan winger.
What Onyedika said
Speaking after the match, Onyedika openly acknowledged his teammate’s contribution, joking that Chukwueze deserves special appreciation.
“I need to buy Samuel Chukwueze a gift. All my three Super Eagles goals came from his assists,” he said.
