‘I never saw racism’ - Siasia dismisses claims of racial abuse during his time in Europe

Siasia played for Lokeren in Belgium for six years before making a transfer move to French side Nantes.

The ex-Super Eagles coach emphasized that his experience in the European country was devoid of racial discrimination, attributing any player-related issues to performance rather than race.

In an exclusive interview, as reported on X, Siasia was asked if he was ever racially abused in Europe.

Siasia adamantly stated, “Maybe some guys went there and they talk about racism and all, I never saw any racism. There wasn't any racism.” 

He further explained his perspective, highlighting that the primary focus for clubs was on fielding the best players for success. “All they wanted was good players that can help the team win matches,” he affirmed.

While Siasia dismissed racism claims, he did acknowledge facing challenges adjusting to the cold weather in Belgium. 

“The problem I had there was the cold, you know, was very, very cold,” he recalled. Coming from Africa, the drastic climate change posed difficulties. 

However, Siasia adapted by indulging in coffee, a habit he still maintains today. “You always let out. You always drink coffee every day. 

You learn how to drink. That's how, up till today I always want to drink coffee, the black ones and all that stuff,” he shared.
