"I never expected to win Wimbledon" - Swiatek in disbelief after dominant final performance
The Polish player dominated Amanda Anisimova 6-0, 6-0 to claim her first title at the All England Club.
Iga Swiatek displayed incredible power to claim the trophy in the Wimbledon final.
What Swiatek said
Following her dominant victory on grass, Swiatek congratulated Anisimova, who became emotional during her speech, on a great fortnight, as reported by Sportal.
"Honestly, I still don't know, it feels surreal. I have to congratulate Amanda on a great two weeks, regardless of today's result. I hope we play many more finals here."
She then said that winning Wimbledon felt surreal and unexpected, as she considers herself a clay-court specialist.
"I never dreamed of this because I thought it was too much for me. I feel like an experienced player after winning other Grand Slams, but I never expected to win Wimbledon. I'd like to thank my team, who have always been there for me. We've shown that all of this works, despite some turbulent periods. You're the best a player can have."
She then addressed her family and friends in Polish before switching back to English. Swiatek thanked the crowd and then gave a good plug for the men's final between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.
"I was always nervous walking past Centre Court; you already feel the pressure then. But this year I enjoyed myself and felt comfortable on the court. Thank you to the organisers, sponsors, and everyone at home who cheered for me, as well as the crowd here who came to support me.
"I'll always remember the sound of the champagne bottle popping, it's the sound that wakes me up at night. Thank you all, and I hope you enjoy the men's final tomorrow."
