Nani, 38, was one of the victims of Messi’s elite dribbling ability, which has turned many players into internet memes and viral clips. The now-retired Portuguese was a top-rated dribbler himself and he revealed his way of playing down the incident whenever his son brought it up.

What Nani

The former Valencia winger was on the ObiOne podcast co-hosted by Super Eagles legend John Mikel Obi.

Mikel, leveraging his relationships and connections with fellow legendary footballers, has created a space where former players and current pros tell interesting stories, and the Nani episode was one such case.

In a clip shared on the platform’s Instagram handle, the former Manchester United star said his son regularly teases him for getting dribbled by Messi in the 2011 Champions League final, and he counters by lying that he also nutmegged the Argentine twice.

“There's a video, we,  I played against, Barcelona, the final of the Champions [League] .That is, one play where he, he, he beat me. Messi beat me,” Nani said.

“And today, today, my son, my son is killing me. I said to my son, Why are you laughing?

“‘Did you see what I did to him? They just put the video of Messi. They don't put my videos. They put the video what they want to promote because when I give the meg to Messi’, I lie; I lie a little bit.

“I don't remember the meg, but I lied to him a little bit. I said when I give him two megs, nobody put the videos.”
