'I just wanted to execute a clean race' - Elated Tobi Amusan reveals after breaking 7-year-old record in Rabat

Following her record-breaking run and return to winning ways at the Rabat Diamond League over the weekend, Nigeria's hurdling queen Tobi Amusan has revealed how much the race meant to her.

The World Record holder in the women's 100mH event blazed to an impressive Season's Best (SB) performance of 12.45s (1.2), finishing well clear of Nadine Visser in second with a time of 12.67s, and Pia Skrzyszowska third in 12.69s. World indoor silver medallist Ditaji Kambundji was fourth in 12.71s.

With her brilliant victory, Amusan broke Brianna McNeal's previous Meeting Record (MR) of 12.51s set in 2018 and her brilliant mark is currently the sixth fastest in the world this season, showing she's gradually getting back to her best shape ahead of the World Championships in Tokyo this summer.

Speaking after the race, the 29-year-old talented hurdler revealed how she just wanted to execute a good race after a lukewarm start stacked with defeats in her first three races of the season.

"God be praised. I mean, the beginning of the season was a little bit rough for me, but I mean I kept my head down, trusted the process, had faith in my hardwork, and coming out here today I just wanted to execute a clean race. I don't know what I did but I knew I was just running, but glory to God," said the 2022 world champion.

When asked if she changed anything in her preparations between the Chinese Diamond Leagues and coming to Rabat, Amusan said:

"Honestly, it's just a lot more hurdle practice because I've been doing more sprinting and it was after the first two Diamond League meetings I knew I needed to go back into doing hurdle drills, and two weeks in, I can tell the difference."

Amusan is scheduled to compete next in the 100m and 100mH events at the Racers Grand Prix in Jamaica on June 7.
