I followed my heart — Osimhen reveals former coach discouraged him from joining Galatasaray
Super Eagles ace Victor Osimhen has revealed that he was counselled against joining Napoli by a sizable number of people, including a former coach; however, he followed his heart to Cim-Bom.
The 27-year-old joined the Turkish Super Lig champions last summer after a successful season-long loan in which he won the golden boot and led Galatasaray to a milestone 25th league title, with the Turkish Cup to boot.
However, his decision to move to Turkey has been criticised in many spheres, as it is believed a player of his qualities and in his prime years should be plying their trade in the top five European leagues and not in Turkey.
What Osimhen said
Ahead of the UCL play-offs first-leg clash against Juventus, Osimhen spoke to Italian publication Gazetta dello Sport. He discussed many topics, including his decision to join Cim-Bom, revealing that he was advised not to.
"Do you know how many people told me 'Don't go to Turkey,' when I left Napoli? Even a former manager told me, 'No, no, no. Don't go there, it's not a smart move.' But I think with my heart, not my head. I wanted to play for Galatasaray,” Osimhen said, per OLTsport.
Osimhen's comments reflect his conviction and self-belief in the face of external doubt and criticism. He is making the most of his second season at the club, taking them one half of the way into the Champions League playoffs.
He proved too much to handle for the Juventus backline on Tuesday, powering his team to an incredible 5-2 victory at Rams Park. Galatasaray are now favourites to advance into the round of 16, having secured a significant advantage ahead of the second leg in Italy.
