‘I did not take a dime for 8 years’ - Pinnick claims he sponsored himself through his tenure as NFF president
Amaju Pinnick served as the president of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) from October 2014 until he stepped down in October 2022.
During his tenure, the FIFA Organising Committee member managed the affairs of the Nigeria national team.
However, he claimed that he took so many trips on a pro bono basis and did not ask for any payment for the committee.
What Pinnick said
Speaking on Sunday Oliseh's "Global Football Insights" show, Pinnick reveals he made a lot of sacrifices when he was president.
“I am saying I did not have the enabling environment and it was clear as crystal, even to the blind, in one minute.
“Do you know what it means? Every time at a point, say, where your wife called you. My wife called me to choose between the NFF and us, your family.
“I was president of the NFF. Let me say this, I don't know if I'm saying the first time, for 8 years NFF did not pay my accommodation.
“I want to go and do an investigation on that I was entitled to at that point $80,000 which was 12 million naira.
“I did not take a dime for 8 years. The NFF did not fly me to Abuja. I was going to Abuja every week with my aids.
“Go and check their records. You know, so because I went in on a sacrificial basis, I was driven by passion, not any material or experience factor.”
Meanwhile, Pinnick has boldly claimed that the Super Eagles would not have missed out on the 2026 FIFA World Cup under his leadership.
