I am begging Man United — Ghana legend names Osimhen as his favourite striker, wants top clubs to sign him
Ghanaian senior men’s national team top scorer Asamoah Gyan has named Victor Osimhen as his favourite active striker, lauding the Nigerian’s passion and quality, before adding that he wishes Manchester United would make a move for the Super Eagles star.
What Gyan said
The former Sunderland striker had a recent interview with former England international defender Rio Ferdinand, in which he discussed a myriad of footballing topics, including his infamous penalty miss against Uruguay, his £227,000 weekly wages at Shanghai SIPG, which made him one of the highest-paid players in the world, and a ranking of top African footballers, among other topics.
Another such topic was who his favourite active striker is, and after pondering for a bit, he named Osimhen, praising the Galatasaray man and matching him with the Red Devils.
“Victor Osimhen, yeah, yeah, he loves scoring goals, and then he's, he plays with the heart, you know, he gives everything,” he told Ferdinand. “I like those kinds of strikers, and I'm not, I'm, I'm surprised that the big, the big clubs didn't come for him this, this, this transfer window.

“But hopefully I, I'm, I'm appealing to Manchester United too. If only he wants to come because of their history and everything, if only he wants to come, but Osimhen will come to Man United. If Man United offer to go take Osimhen, he will go 100%.”
Osimhen and Manchester United
Osimhen has been consistently profiled as a “complete No. 9” by top European clubs. Manchester United’s interest dates back to summer 2023 and again in 2024, when the club explored striker options but ultimately baulked at Napoli’s valuation and wage demands.
The 27-year-old currently plies his trade for Galatasaray in the Turkish Super League. Clubs in the top five European leagues are still monitoring him, with Cim-Bom said to have slapped a €130 million price tag on him to deter suitors.
