The 31-year-old was elected by his peers to a four-year term, according to reports from Sportal.

"It's a true honor to be elected president by my peers, and I will work tirelessly to advocate for the best interests of all our members," VanVleet said. "I will approach this role with the same passion, integrity, and dedication that all players deserve."

"It has been a privilege serving on the Executive Committee for the past seven years. I am excited about the future under Fred's leadership; he has earned the respect of the basketball community, and has demonstrated that he is ready for this next step," McCollum said.

VanVleet has had an unconventional NBA career, signing with the Toronto Raptors as an undrafted free agent. He went on to become an All-Star and the highest-paid undrafted player in league history. He averages 14.9 points and 5.7 assists per game over his nine-year career with Toronto and Houston.
