Legendary Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke has discouraged the club from pursuing Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers, noting that the England star lacked the soul to play for the Red Devils.

The allure of Morgan Rogers

Rogers has become one of the most highly rated young English stars. He joined Aston Villa in February 2024 from Middlesbrough for an initial £8m (rising to £16 million) and quickly established himself under Unai Emery.

During the 2024/25 season he scored 14 goals and provided 15 assists in 54 appearances across all competitions, helping Villa compete at the top of the Premier League and earning a senior England debut in November 2024.

That form has sparked widespread transfer interest, with Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool all monitoring his situation and Villa even offering him a new contract through 30 June 2031 to fend off suitors, while rivals like Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked.

What Yorke said about Rogers

Yorke has publicly discouraged his signing for Old Trafford, suggesting that Yorke is a flash in the pan.

“There are a few candidates out there, but I can see why Morgan Rogers is mentioned,” Yorke said, per Goal. “He is the flavour of the month at the moment, and everyone is trying to pounce on that.”

“I'm not really a great believer in that,” he continued. “I look a little bit deeper into the soul of the player to see if he will really fulfil that sort of area when it comes to United, because of the magnitude of the team he is going to play for.”
