He can't be matched — Rashford on how Ronaldo changed football
Barcelona forward Marcus Rashford praised Cristiano Ronaldo’s longevity, stating that the Portugal international provided a blueprint for young footballers who wanted to extend their careers for as long as possible.
What Rashford said
The 27-year-old was recently on England national team duty. In what looked like a trivia round of questioning, he was asked to name the player who had the most international caps.
The answer is Ronaldo (225) with Portugal, and Rashford answered correctly before going on to shower the Real Madrid legend with praise.
“Cristiano Ronaldo,” he answered the question, per ITVSport. “He is one of the players that I have been grateful to play with. Obviously, I watched him a lot when I was younger. I'm not sure his longevity can ever be matched.
“I think it's a real lesson to all of us that it is possible to play at the top level for so many years. It's unbelievable. So, big credit to him. It shows us that we can all do a bit more to stay in the game for as long as possible.”
Meanwhile, Rashford's comment in a recent interview, where he blamed the inconsistent environment at Manchester United for his career struggles, has attracted a reaction from Wayne Rooney, who urged the Barcelona star to take more personal responsibility
