Harambee Stars Strikers Abroad: Pain for Olunga, Ogam and Shumah as Ayunga Enjoys Best Career Moment
Kenyan strikers had mixed fortunes for their respective clubs abroad at the weekend with Michael Olunga and Ryan Ogam on the losing end.
Olunga, who has been in good form recently, could not do much as his side Al Arabi lost a cup game, getting beaten 3-0 by Muaither SC in the Qatari Stars Cup popularly known as Ooredoo on Saturday.
Al Arabi had no answers as Algerian Ahmed Ait Abdesslem netted the opening goal in the 11th minute before Spanish forward Ethyan Gonzalez made it 2-0 ten minutes later and Malawian midfielder Lloyd Aaron put the icing on the cake with the third goal in the 67th minute.
Where is Ryan Ogam?
In Austria, striker Ryan Ogam continued to miss out on the action as his club Wolfsberger AC lost 2-1 to 10-man Red Bull Salzburg on Saturday.
Salzburg took seven minutes to get on the scoresheet when Kerim Alajbegovic broke the deadlock but Wolfsberger equalised through a Dejan Zukic penalty. Salzburg had a penalty missed through Petar Ratkov but Kerim Alajbegovic would win it for the Austrian giants four minutes from time.
It was a sixth straight match when Ogam did not make the matchday squad as he continues to be frozen out of the team following his dream transfer to the Austrian club.
Ogam, who has played twice for the senior team, last featured in a cup game on October 29.
Shumah Off Target, Ayunga Grabs Brace
In Zambia, Moses Shumah could not continue his scoring run for Power Dynamos as his side recorded a 1-1 draw with Kabwe Warriors in the Zambian Super League on Saturday.
Shumah came on as a second half substitute but Power Dynamos could not do much as Francis Banda’s header caneclled out Samuel Bamidele’s 57th minute goal from a penalty.
Meanwhile, Jonah Ayunga was the toast of Harambee Stars strikers abroad as he scored twice to lead St Mirren to Scottish League Cup glory following a 3-1 win over Celtic on Sunday.
Marcus Fraser scored after two minutes for St Mirren before Reo Hatate drew Celtic level in the 23rd minute but Ayunga scored twice in the space of 12 minutes in the second half to led his club to a first trophy since 2013.
