Speaking on the Alex Mwakideu TV, Farouk Shikhalo described Benni McCarthy as the best coach he has ever worked with, praising him for being more than just a manager.

He said Benni McCarthy played the role of a mentor and father figure who offered guidance and created an open, supportive environment for the players.

“He is the best coach I have worked with. There’s no other great thing like having a coach who is a big brother, like a father, one who guides you,” Farouk Shikhalo revealed.

“Despite him being the manager, he has given us the environment to share anything, and he has managed to stand with us throughout our circumstances. That is the kind of coach we have now, a coach you can lean on.

“He has seen it, he has done it and has been there, and with all the experience he has gathered, he is guiding us well. I’m learning a lot from him.”

Meanwhile, Benni McCarthy immediately took charge as Kenya prepared for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. His initial matches included a 3-3 draw away against the Gambia in his first game, followed by a defeat to Gabon.

After a series of subsequent matches, the Harambee Stars secured their first victory under him, a 2-1 win in a friendly against Chad in June 2025.

The team then impressed at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), co-hosted by Kenya. Despite a slow start to his tenure, Benni McCarthy guided the Harambee Stars to the quarter-finals of the CHAN tournament, topping a tough group that included Morocco, DR Congo, and Zambia.

In the quarterfinal, Harambee Stars lost to Madagascar through a penalty shootout. A further highlight was an away victory against Burundi in the World Cup qualifiers.
