Hansi Flick blames defensive errors for Barcelona’s La Liga defeat to Girona
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has criticised his side’s defensive display following their 2-1 La Liga defeat to Girona on Monday night.
Despite taking the lead through young defender Pau Cubarsí, Barcelona were unable to hold on, with Girona capitalising on defensive lapses to secure all three points.
What Flick said
Speaking after the match, Flick did not shy away from identifying the root of the problem.
“We defended very poorly, especially in transition. We weren’t well-positioned and struggled to withstand Girona’s attacks,” he said.
Barcelona created several promising opportunities in the first half but failed to convert their dominance into a comfortable advantage.
Flick stressed that a lack of control and costly mistakes ultimately proved decisive.
He added, “We needed more control and fewer mistakes. In the first half, we had more chances, but we have to show the hunger to win these matches.”
The result leaves Barcelona two points behind league leaders Real Madrid in the La Liga standings.
Flick’s side will now turn their attention to their next fixture against Levante this weekend
