Gyokeres rejects Man United for the second time as he closes in on Arsenal move
The Swedish striker is solely focused on the Gunners, and he and his agents, including Hasan Cetinkaya, view reports linking him with the Red Devils as pressure tactics from Sporting. However, an agreement between Sporting and United is reportedly close, suggesting this transfer saga is far from over.
Manchester United has earmarked between €70 and €80 million to secure Viktor Gyokeres, and an agreement with Sporting is nearing completion. The structure of the deal reportedly aligns with Sporting's desired terms.
Gyokeres rejects Man United
As previously reported by Abola, Gyokeres's move to Arsenal is in jeopardy. Sporting is demanding €80 million, no less.
While the Gunners offered €63.5 million plus €10 million in add-ons, and Gyokeres's agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, even waived his commission (around €7 million), the sticking point remains the add-ons' criteria, which Sporting wants to be easily achievable.
While some targets, such as €2.5 million per 20 appearances, are reasonable, others are reportedly unacceptable to Sporting.
Since receiving Arsenal's offer on Monday, Sporting has heard nothing further from the London club and is now turning its attention to the Manchester United option, where Gyokeres could reunite with his former manager, Ruben Amorim.
The problem is the 27-year-old striker, currently absent from training for nine days and facing disciplinary action and a hefty fine from Sporting, is adamant about joining Arsenal and has already rejected United. This suggests the saga is set to continue.
Gyokeres is currently on holiday in Mallorca, thus in breach of his contract, and is following developments with his agents, who view the latest reports as pressure from Sporting. However, an agreement between Sporting and the Red Devils is reportedly progressing.
