Manchester City centre-back Marc Guehi has shared his thoughts on the reaction from Liverpool fans after he turned up to Anfield as a Cityzen.

The Reds were set to sign him as a free agent in the summer of 2026, but the Cityzens moved early, snapping him up for £20 million plus add-ons in the winter transfer window. He signed a five-and-a-half-year contract, which keeps him at the club until at least 2031.

What Guehi said

After helping Crystal Palace beat Liverpool thrice already this season—Community Shield, Premier League and EFL Cup—Guehi secured his fourth triumph against the Reds this campaign, as he marshalled the Manchester City defence that beat Arne Slot’s side 2-1 at Anfield last weekend.

Liverpool fans gave Guehi grief throughout the game, sending jeers and boos his way, seemingly aggrieved that the England international signed for another club. However, Guehi does not feel he deserved the treatment.

"Yeah, I'm not sure why, to be honest," Guehi responded when asked about the reception. "But I can't control what their fans think of me. I'm just grateful to our fans for sticking by me and supporting me the whole game.

He admitted that it was tough to play against Liverpool, especially at Anfield, citing their suffocating press and boisterous 12th man.

"It’s not easy. Fans are on top of you," he said candidly. "You play against a team that likes to press high, but it’s always about the next action. You might make a mistake, but the next one. Always focused on the next action and how you can help your teammates."
