American sprint star Fred Kerley has taken a lighthearted jab at his compatriot, Trayvon Bromell, following a challenging performance last weekend.

Bromell competed in the men's 300m race at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix, which saw Jereem Richards clinch victory in 32.14s. Noah Lyles finished a close second in 32.15s, while Vernon Norwood took third with 32.38s. Despite having the quickest reaction time off the blocks (0.147s), the former world 60m champion struggled, finishing last in 35.36s.

Following the race, Bromell shared a candid video explaining his exhaustion.

"Hey y’all, post 300, I feel my chest on the ground. I don’t know what went wrong," he said. "You’ll never see me do it again." He captioned the post, "Time to get back to the 60."

The comment caught the attention of Kerley, who responded to a post featuring Bromell's clip on X. "You said that after [the] 4x4 [relay] 6 years ago," he reminded his former teammate, referencing a similar vow Bromell had apparently made in the past.

Kerley's remark appears to be friendly banter, given the supportive relationship the two sprinters have shared. In 2025, when Bromell returned to competition at the Rome Diamond League, Kerley posted a story encouraging him, writing, "My brother back, let's get it."

Bromell's difficulty in the 300m is not entirely surprising, as he's a specialist in shorter sprints. In addition, having previously undergone two surgeries for a ruptured Achilles tendon, running longer events could pose a higher risk of strain.

Bromell kicked off his 2026 season at the Texas Tech Corky Classic, where he won the indoor 200m in an impressive 20.98s, suggesting his form in his preferred events remains strong.
