Instead, the club’s performance dipped, with exits from the CAF Confederation Cup and the Egyptian League Cup marking an early low.

In the league, Zamalek's title defence stumbled badly, with the team falling to third place and trailing league leaders Pyramids by seven points.

For a club with sky-high expectations and a passionate fan base, such a slump is often intolerable, and patience with Peseiro quickly grew thin.

Despite the amicable tone of the official statement, it was clear that results had determined Peseiro’s swift exit.

Peseiro’s appointment marked a rare achievement, as he became only the fifth man to manage both Al Ahly and Zamalek.

But prestige alone could not shield him from the unyielding pressure that comes with managing Egypt’s elite.

His recent experience of a mixed bag with the Nigerian national team brought him respect, yet it did not translate into long-term success in Cairo.
