Former Premier League star Luis Suárez under investigation for 'domestic violence'
Luis Suárez is facing domestic violence charges in Spain. According to Spanish media, the forward was arrested on December 11, 2024, following a complaint filed by his ex-wife alleging physical and psychological abuse.
The alleged victim detailed several instances of physical, psychological, and social abuse, which reportedly occurred in Granada and Marseille between 2020 and 2023.
Suárez is accused of violently throwing objects at his ex-wife, constantly monitoring her, locking her in the house when he left for training, and forcing her into non-consensual sexual intercourse.
Suárez's request to visit their child, approximately a year after their separation, prompted the complaint to the Guardia Civil in Almería.
Suárez, who has consistently denied the accusations, appeared in court in Almería. The Colombian forward was released but placed under judicial supervision. Despite his release, the judge highlighted "grounds for criminal liability" against Suárez for domestic violence and granted protective measures to the alleged victim.
The case has been referred to the Court of Gender Violence in Granada, which reportedly continues to investigate without having reached a decision.
According to Spanish media, neither Luis Suárez nor Almería have publicly commented on the case. The Colombian forward remained a key player for the club on the field, finishing the season with 31 goals.
In recent days, Luis Suárez was officially announced as Sporting's most expensive signing in history, with the club paying €22.2 million to Almería.
The accusations against the Colombian forward have not gone down well with Sporting fans, who have expressed shock and outrage over the case in the past few hours.
