Former Arsenal star Mesut Ozil hails Maguire and Onana for proving haters wrong

Such a moment unfolded when former Arsenal star Mesut Ozil took to social media to applaud Harry Maguire and Andre Onana for their standout performances against Danish side, Copenhagen, in the UEFA Champions League, UCL.

Maguire and Onana have come under heavy criticism and scrutiny over the course of the season for their respective forms for Manchester United.

However, on Tuesday night at Old Trafford, both players put on a show that earned them recognition from one of football’s most respected figures as Erik Ten Hag’s men laboured to a first win in the UCL this campaign.

In the game against Copenhagen which led to Ozil’s praise, Maguire, who was linked with a move to West Ham United in the summer, scored the decisive goal while goalkeeper, Onana, went from a villain to a hero after Scot McTominay conceded a late penalty, with the Cameroonian pulling off a point-blank save. 

Both players demonstrated remarkable skill and composure during the game to rekindle United’s Champions League hopes.

Ozil, who is widely recognised for his creative genius on the pitch, understands the challenges that footballers face, particularly in high-stakes matches. He took to social media to praise Maguire and Onana for proving their haters wrong with a solid display on the night.

“Harry Maguire & Andre Onana deserve that - silencing their haters,” former Arsenal man, Ozil posted on X.com moments after the game. 

That acknowledgement of Maguire and Onana’s performances is a testament to the spirit of solidarity and sportsmanship in football.
