The 26-year-old returned to action for the first time since his injury on Super Eagles duty. He did not perform at his usual level but was fit enough to play most of the game in the stiffly contested 1-1 draw.

Leroy Sane gave Okan Buruk's side the lead around the half-hour, and they held onto it until late in the game, before a Jhon Duran strike ensured spoils were shared.

Key match details

The derby began cagey and competitive, but Galatasaray found the breakthrough in the 27th minute. Leroy Sané exploited space on the left, after a pass from Baris Alper Yilmaz, before firing a low shot to the bottom left corner, which beat Ederson.

The goal was long coming, as Sane had come close moments before. Fenerbahçe pressed for a response after the interval but struggled to fashion a clear chance until the closing stages.

Osimhen was largely kept quiet, with Milan Skriniar and Co. keeping true to their word and keeping him at bay, as they limited the Nigeria international to only one shot on target, keeping him offside twice.

In a bid to protect the result, Galatasaray defended the lead for most of the second half, with Fenerbahçe peppering their goal with wave after wave of attacks.

Their persistence was rewarded in the sixth minute of stoppage time when Jhon Durán finished a late, frantic sequence to make it 1–1.

Fenerbahçe pushed for the win, but Galatasaray held on to the point, which ensured they stayed top of the league, one point above their rivals on the day.
