'Expect the Unexpected' - Noah Lyles shares motivational message after impressive season opener
After a commanding performance in his season debut at the Carnes Invitational, Olympic champion Noah Lyles has revealed the mindset fueling his 2026 campaign.
Competing in his first 300m race since 2017, the iconic runner claimed victory but narrowly missed the facility record established by Steven Gardiner in 2023. The event, which featured a field of mostly collegiate runners, saw Lyles finish ahead of Ace Malone and Grace Franks.

Following the race, the 28-year-old took to Instagram to share his primary goal for the current season, which he sees as preparation for future challenges.
"2026 Goal: Expect the Unexpected," he wrote in a caption accompanying photos from the meet.
In a subsequent Instagram story, Lyles posted a picture of championship belts from his training group, Pure Athletics, indicating they would serve as a key motivator. "Practice about to get serious," he added.
Lyles trains in Florida under renowned coach Lance Brauman at Pure Athletics.
