Ex-Super Eagles star Mutiu Adepoju reveals how Nigeria can qualify for the 2026 World Cup

Former Real Sociedad star Mutiu Adepoju has backed the Super Eagles to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite their 2-1 loss to Benin Republic. 

Nigeria’s hopes of qualifying for the biggest sporting event in the world took a huge blow after they picked up just one point from two games in the last two qualifiers. 

Going into the last qualifying window, the Super Eagles knew they needed a positive result from the matches against South Africa and Benin having picked up just two points against Lesotho and Zimbabwe from their first two matches. 

However, the Super Eagles played out a 1-1 draw against the Bafana Bafana before suffering an embarrassing defeat against Gernot Rohr’s men. 

The loss to Benin left Nigeria in fifth place in their group with three points, four behind Rwanda, South Africa and Benin. 

But despite their position, Adepoju believes the Super Eagles have what it takes to qualify for the World Cup in 2026. 

In an exclusive interview with Pulse Sports Nigeria, Adepoju believes Nigeria will qualify if they win all their remaining games. 

“ We lost 2-1 [to Benin] which is not good for us but nevertheless, there are six more matches which I believe we have to win all those matches. No other option than to win all the matches if we want to have the opportunity of qualifying for the World Cup, Adepoju told Pulse Sports. 

Nigeria will get a chance to put their qualifying campaign back on track when they take on Rwanda next March.
