Following that, Santos was loaned to Nottingham Forest but saw limited playing time. He was then sent on loan to Strasbourg, where he spent a season and a half.
Last season, the Brazilian impressed during his stint in France, and this season he has been integrated into Chelsea's first team. The 21-year-old midfielder made his debut for the Blues at the Club World Cup.
Santos rejects Saudi Arabia's move
Last summer, West Ham United submitted a £45 million bid for his services, which was rejected.
Arsenal also showed interest, but the most significant offer came from Saudi Arabia, as reported by Sportal.
Al-Qadsiah tabled a proposal worth nearly £60 million and offered Santos a salary five times greater than his current earnings at Chelsea.
“The offer came in, but I immediately rejected it because my dream and my big goal is the World Cup next summer.
"I know that being at Chelsea and in the Premier League gives me a greater chance than being in Saudi Arabia. That was the main reason I refused,” the Brazilian stated.
