Enyimba's Geometric Power burns Gombe United: 5 key takeaways from the NPFL tie

Pulse Sports Nigeria reports that the People’s Elephant were no match for their counterparts from Gombe after a comprehensive 4-0 victory. 

 There were key takeaways from the entertaining encounter which was originally scheduled for Wednesday. 

Gombe United, known as the Savannah Scorpions, returned to Gombe darker than they arrived in Aba, as Enyimba unleashed their Geometric Power, leaving the visitors scorched.

The Elephants took advantage of the newly celebrated project, Geometric Power in Abia State, to burn their visitors in a one-sided affair in Aba. 

The People’s Elephant registered their largest victory in the NPFL this season and in nine months, overpowering Gombe United at home. 

This was reminiscent of their previous dominant performance against the same opponent, securing a 5-0 win on May 7, 2023.

Despite a scorching 39°C temperature and 15% humidity in Gombe State, from where Gombe United hailed, it was Enyimba who dominated their opponents, delivering an emphatic win. 

The 2 pm kickoff didn't deter the Elephants as they soared past their opponents to extend their unbeaten run to three matches in the Football League.

Enyimba claimed the top spot in the league for the first time this season, overtaking former leaders Lobi Stars. 

With both teams tied at 39 points, Enyimba's commanding performance now puts them in a prime position to defend their crown.

Both teams have the same wins, draws, and have lost the same number of games, but the Elephants lead thanks to a superior goal difference.

Striker Chijoke Mbaoma emerged as the star of the match, guiding Enyimba to victory with a stellar performance. 

His brace, comprising his eighth and ninth goals of the season, showcased his prowess and contribution to the team's success.

He was, however, denied a chance to seal a first hattrick of the season after Finidi George substituted him late on in the second half.

Enyimba's dominant display and Mbaoma's standout performance underscored their strength and determination in the NPFL, solidifying their status as formidable contenders for the league title.
