I write my own script — England hero reflects on dramatic comeback win against Georgia
Jude Bellingham was the hero for England as his stunning overhead kick in the dying moments of regulation rescued his side from a shocking upset against Georgia in the Euro 2024 round of 16.
However, the 21-year-old Real Madrid midfielder was quick to deflect the praise, insisting that the team's collective effort was the driving force behind their dramatic comeback.
"I do," the 21-year-old Real Madrid midfielder said after his stunning overhead kick in the 94th minute to equalise and force extra time, where England ultimately prevailed 2-1.
Bellingham on England’s win
Speaking further on the narrow escape, Bellingham highlighted that England’s progress was more about the team and less about him or Harry Kane, who netted the winner.
"Look who came on there. We've won this game together, not me, not Harry, not the individual moments where you look back on it, maybe in a few years and talk about the game," Bellingham said in a video on TikTok.
Georgia had taken a shock lead through Ivan Schranz's 25th-minute strike, leaving England facing the prospect of a major upset.
But Bellingham's moment of magic in the dying seconds of added time kept the Three Lions' hopes alive.
In extra time, captain Kane scored the winning header to seal England's place in the quarterfinals, but Bellingham was quick to deflect the praise away from himself and Kane.
"It's the likes of Ivan Toney, who assisted Kane, (Eberechi) Eze, Cole Palmer, and I could name all the rest coming on. Bukayo (Saka) going to left-back - that's sacrifices that you make for the team," he concluded.
Bellingham's humble and team-centric response underscored the unity and resilience within the England squad as they continued their quest for European glory.
