Egypt vs Benin: Salah sends Rohr’s Cheetahs packing from AFCON with extra time goals
The Pharaohs head into the clash looking to continue their good run in the group stage and advance to the next round.
However, they met a resilient Benin team, who held them to a 1-1 draw at full-time, with some nervy moments late in the game.
The Egyptians were able to get past the Cheetahs in extra time, scoring two goals to defeat Gernot Rorh’s team 3-1.

Egypt were led in attack by Liverpool star Mohamed Salah, who has scored two goals in the ongoing tournament.
The Pharaohs looked strong heading into the round of 16 clash after two wins and a draw in the group stage.
Benin Republic, on the other hand, had to rely on being one of the third-best-placed teams after failing to get an automatic ticket.
Both teams started the game looking very cautious not to give away many opportunities and failed to get a goal heading into the halftime break.
It was a cagey affair in the first half, with both teams managing only two shots each, and just one of those efforts finding the target for either side.
In the second half, Egypt took the lead in the 69th minute. Mohamed Hany passed to Marwan Attia, who collected the ball and unleashed a terrific shot from the edge of the box to score the first goal of the game.
However, just a few minutes into injury time, Benin shocked the Egyptian team with an equaliser from Jodel Dossou, taking the game to extra time.
Yasser Ibrahim gave Egypt the lead in the first half of extra time, before Salah sealed the win to secure a quarter-final spot.
