Liverpool said that “fans who have already purchased new 2023-24 home and away jerseys printed with the name ‘Darwin’ and the number ‘27’ will be personally reimbursed by Nunez with a like-for-like exchange for a ‘Darwin 9’ shirt”.
Firmino, who was the previous jersey holder has left on a free transfer to join Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli. Nunez is the second Liverpool player to switch shirt numbers this summer, following winger Luis Diaz's switch to 7 from 23.
The number became vacant after James Milner transferred to Brighton & Hove Albion on a free transfer.
