Cristiano Ronaldo returns to training amid strike rumours

Cristiano Ronaldo has returned to training for Al Nassr after rumours circulated claiming that he was on strike in protest against the Saudi PIF for their lack of investment in the Faris Najf vis-à-vis other clubs owned by them.

The 40-year-old revolutionised football in the Gulf, kick-starting the modern wave of European superstars transferring to the Gulf. Reports of his strike accompanied rumours claiming he was contemplating leaving the Saudi Pro League, raising serious concerns about the country's football project.

Ronaldo has quelled some of the unrest, sharing a picture of himself in Al Nassr training, signalling a return to the fold, after he missed previous training sessions following the victory against Al-Kholood.

As Pulse Sports reported, Ronaldo is rumoured to be unhappy with the PIF's financial management of Al-Nassr, especially when compared to rival clubs.

The superstar is said to be in a dispute over what he perceives as a lack of investment from Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF).

Portuguese newspaper A Bola cited a club source who claimed Ronaldo is frustrated with the PIF's handling of Al-Nassr's finances. The specific case of Karim Benzema’s transfer to Al Hilal is referenced as a point of contention for Ronaldo, with Al Nassr star believed to have protested against the strengthening of the Blue Waves.

They beat Al Kholood over the weekend, with Ronaldo scoring to take his career tally to 961 strikes. The reports of his displeasure came after the match, which helped them cut the deficit on Al Hilal to three points, raising concerns for their next game against Al-Ittihad.

However, his return to training put him back in contention for the top-of-the-table clash, as the Faris Najd continue their push for a first league title since 2019.
