Thanks to a Joao Pedro header in first-half extra time and a second-half penalty from Enzo Fernandez, the Blues beat their London rivals, who had both Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey in their starting lineup.

How it happened

Chelsea stretched their unbeaten Premier League run with a 2-0 win over Fulham at Stamford Bridge, making it just one defeat in their last 12 league match with, Alejandro Garnacho, set to join the Blues soon, watching from the stands.

Fulham caused problems in the first half and thought they had scored when 18-year-old Josh King had the ball in the back of the net, only for VAR to rule it out due to a foul by Rodrigo Muniz. Chelsea then took the lead as Joao Pedro headed in Enzo Fernández’s corner just before the break.

After halftime, Fulham were undone again by VAR when Trevoh Chalobah’s cross struck Ryan Sessegnon’s arm, leading to a penalty.

Fernández calmly converted, doubling Chelsea’s advantage and effectively sealing the contest. The Blues could have added more, but Pedro wasted a one-on-one with Bernd Leno.

In the end, Chelsea’s two goals were enough to send them temporarily top of the table. Fulham, meanwhile, were left frustrated by decisions and are still searching for their first win of the season, although this marked their first defeat in all competitions.
