Mauricio Pochettino mistakes

Chelsea were the better side in most of the game despite the Gunners getting more possessions.

They were more dangerous going forward and scored two goals, one from the penalty spot after Saliba’s handball and the second goal that was meant to be a cross from Mudyrk but ended in the back of the net.

The game was looking destined to be Chelsea’s but some moment of miscommunication and lack of concentration left the Blues with just a draw.

The game ending in a draw also had to do with Mauricio Pochettino's mistakes and we pinpoint three errors made by the Argentine.

1. Taking out Mudryk early

The first mistake made by Mauricio Pochettino was substituting Mukhaylo Mudryk for Nikolas Jackson in the early minutes of the second half.

Mudryk was a constant terror on the left flank and was giving Ben White a tough time when attacking with the ball.

Chelsea’s attack dropped off when the Ukrainian was substituted and they reverted to another formation which limited their progress in attack.

2. Failing to manage the game

Another mistake from the Chelsea manager was not knowing when to manage the game at the closing stage.

Chelsea kept finding a way to attack Arsenal without trying to block the penetrative areas that the Gunners could exploit.

With just 15 minutes remaining before the final whistle, Pochettino should have informed his players to sit deep and contain Arsenal’s pressure for the remainder of the game.

3. Failing to substitute an attacker for a defender

The only defensive tactics and substitution Mauricio Pochettino did in the game was removing Cole Palmer for Reese James.

The fact that you made the first substitution by removing Mudryk for Jackson is still forgivable but not bringing in at least two or three defenders in the last five minutes or 10 minutes of the game is a big mistake.

Instead, he replaced Raheem Sterling with another attacker when he knew the game was already hanging in the balance.

If he had brought in two defenders, Gusto might have had some defensive support to help track the run of Trossard and deny Arsenal the equaliser.
