Chelsea undertook a five-game winning streak towards the close of the season under Pochettino, which guaranteed them a sixth-place finish and a spot in Europe the following year.

However, Chelsea was unable to achieve their aim of qualifying for the Champions League, and the 52-year-old's contract was terminated with one year remaining.

Under Todd Boehly, the Blues have spent almost £1 billion, with very little immediate return on investment.

In the summer transfer window, the Blues brought in 12 players and let go of 28 during Pochettino's first transfer window in charge of the team.

Following a disappointing first half of the season, Chelsea under manager Mauricio Conte appeared to be headed for a similar position in the standings this season after finishing 12th the previous year.

However, in the second half of the season, Chelsea was outscored in the league only by Manchester City, Arsenal, and Liverpool.
