CHAMPIONS: Rangers International lift first NPFL title in eight years
Rangers International have been crowned champions of the Nigerian Professional Football League, NPFL, in stunning fashion after a thrilling 2-1 victory over Gombe United on the final day of the season.
The Flying Antelopes wrapped up the title in style with a hard-fought away win against relegated Gombe United in Jos on Sunday, with young stars Kazeem Ogunleye and Godwin Obaje the heroes of the day.
Rangers clinch NPFL Title
Ogunleye and Obaje struck early in the first half to put Rangers in control before Gombe netted a consolation in a nervy finish.
The victory comes after Rangers secured the title the previous matchday at their iconic Cathedral stadium in Enugu, meaning this final day victory was merely the icing on the cake for the jubilant players and supporters.
Rangers also return to the continent where they will be one of two clubs expected to represent Nigeria in the prestigious CAF Champions League, CAFCL.
It's Rangers' first league crown in eight years and their eighth NPFL title overall, cementing their status as one of the most successful clubs in Nigerian football history, only behind bitter rivals Enyimba.
With the trophy now safely in the bag, all eyes will be on Rangers as they look to continue their dominance in the seasons to come.
This young, vibrant side led by the duo of Barrister Amobi Ezeaku off the pitch and Fidelis Ilechukwu, on the pitch, appears to be just getting started.
