CAF Award nominee Deborah Abiodun dedicates Player of the Match to Super Falcons teammates

CAF Award hopeful Deborah Abiodun has shown she has a big heart after dedicating her Player of the Match award against Cape Verde to her Super Falcons teammates and Nigerians.

Abiodun was in fine form as Nigeria defeated Cape Verde’s Blue Sharks 5-0 in the first leg of the WAFCON 2024 final round qualifiers in Abuja on Thursday. 

The midfield masetro became the talk of the nation after an emphatic display against Cape Verde in the decisive WAFCON clash.

Despite not finding the net in the game, the talented player stoodout with her dominant display in midfield against the Sharks.

The duo of Uchenna Kanu and Esther Okonkwo netted most of the goals, with a brace each, while Monday Gift was the other scorer on the day for the Falcons. 

However, Deborah’s mastery in that midfield stole the show as totally dominated the midfield with her commanding presence and exceptional ball control.

Abiodun's mastery and level on the day left fans who watched and followed the game in awe of her ability to dictate play and transition between offense and defense.

Her impressive decision-making and overall contribution to the team’s success earned her a deserved Player of the Match award in the end.

Following the performance in the WAFCON tie and her award, the youngster took to social media to express her joy.

Abiodun shared the moment with her teammates after she dedicated the award to them. 

“Honored to receive the Player of the Match award,” Deborah posted on her social media account.

 “Huge thanks to my teammates and the incredible support from fans,”  she added. “Let's keep pushing together! This award is for all of us.”

Abiodun will be hoping for more of the same when the Nigeria Super Falcons travel to Cape Verde for the second leg of the match slated for Dec 5, 2023.
