Burnley are battling to stay in the top division, while 14th-placed Newcastle are in a quest to get a victory after three matches without win in the EPL. ​

Burnley are battling relegation and are currently 19th on the EPL table with 12 points from 18 matches. Their 0-0 draw against Everton means Scott Parker’s men are now without a win in both November and December. 

As the last match of the year, the game on Tuesday will be an opportunity to get a win, especially as they face a side that are also trying to find their feet this season. 

Newcastle were defeated by a lone goal by Manchester United on Boxing Day to make it three straight games without a win in the league. Although they dominated most of the match, Eddie Howe’s men were unable to convert their chances.

The Magpies must overcome the fever that comes with travelling away from home. They were only able to win one away match in their last 12 trips. However, playing against Burnley may just be the perfect time to have their desired victory. ​

Newcastle have had the upper hand in this fixture lately, winning all of their last five Premier League matches against Burnley. Their most recent trip to Turf Moor, in May 2024, ended in a comfortable win. Burnley have not beaten Newcastle in the league since December 2019, when they grabbed a 1-0 home victory.

Burnley will still be without defenders Jordan Beyer and Hjalmar Ekdal, who are both long-term absentees. Mike Trésor is close to full fitness but probably will not start. Manager Scott Parker is likely to stick with the same lineup that earned a draw against Everton.
