Burnley vs Manchester United: Ghosts of Amorim linger as Red Devils held to draw at second-from-bottom Clarets
Manchester United began the Darren Fletcher interim regime with a 2-2 draw away to Burnley in the Premier League, just days after Ruben Amorim's dismissal.
A brace from summer signing Benjamin Sesko helped Manchester United fight back from an early Ayden Heaven own goal, but a strike mid-way through the second half from Jaidon Anthony ensured spoils were shared between the sides.
Burnley vs Manchester United: How it happened
With Amorim sacked just days ago and Darren Fletcher taking interim charge, there was little visible change in United’s performance.
They fell behind early in fortuitous fashion when Bashir Humphreys’ cross deflected off Ayden Heaven and looped into the far corner, handing Burnley, who are winless in 11 games, a surprise lead.
United responded sluggishly but gradually took control, creating several chances through Bruno Fernandes, Benjamin Å eÅ¡ko, and Manuel Ugarte. Lisandro MartÃnez even thought he had equalised, only for his goal to be ruled out for a foul in the build-up.
United’s pressure finally paid off after the break, with Šeško finishing a Fernandes pass to make it 1–1 before doubling his tally on the hour mark, converting Patrick Dorgu’s cross after sustained dominance. However, familiar defensive frailties resurfaced as substitute Jaidon Anthony curled home a fine equaliser to restore parity.
Late efforts from Shea Lacey nearly snatched victory for United, but they were forced to settle for another disappointing draw, while Burnley extended their winless run to 12 matches.
