The hole left by Caicedo’s departure is certainly a mammoth one to fill, but Brighton believe they have found a replacement for the Ecuadorian midfielder in Lille’s Baleba.
Brighton have reportedly approached Lille for the Cameroonian midfielder, whom they believe they can secure for a €16 million fee, including bonuses.
Brighton to sign Lille youngster
The 19-year-old midfielder joined Lille from Brasseries in Cameroon in 2022, and after one year with the Ligue 1 side, he could be set for a move to Brighton in the Premier League.
Baleba has started only six Ligue matches for Lille since his move to France, including Les Dogue’s opening fixture in the 2023/24 season, a 1-1 draw with Nice.
Despite Brighton’s opening bid of €16m for Baleba, RMC reports that Lille will hold out for a fee of around €30 million for the midfield prospect, although both sides could come to an agreement for less.
