‘Bravo to the Nigerian team’ - Ex-Man City star hails Super Eagles performance against Algeria
The Super Eagles of Nigeria claimed a 2-0 victory against Algeria in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinal.
Nigeria secured their place in the semifinals with a commanding performance on Saturday, dismantling an Algerian side that had been tipped as a formidable opponent.
Before the match, Vladimir Petkovic's Fennec Foxes boasted one of the tournament's best defensive records, having conceded only a single goal in their previous four games.
Nasri hails Super Eagles team
Following the match, Nasri, a former French international of Algerian descent, took to social media to commend Nigeria's display. Despite his heritage, he acknowledged the superior quality of the Super Eagles on the night.
Writing on his X account, Nasri stated, "Bravo to the Nigerian team, very impressive in terms of physical athleticism and tactical play. Well deserved based on the content of the match."
The Super Eagles controlled the game with 57% possession and created numerous opportunities, reflected in an expected goals (xG) tally of 3.36 compared to Algeria's meagre 0.13.
The dominance was clear across the board, with Nigeria registering 13 shots to Algeria's three and having 41 touches in the opposition's box, while the Fennec Foxes managed only 10.
The three-time African champions now face their most difficult challenge yet: a semifinal clash against the host nation, Morocco.
