The Athletic Bilbao star has been on the radar of top European clubs, but has given his green light to Barcelona this summer.
Barcelona have had discussions with the player, agreed on personal terms, and decided to activate his release clause.
Barcelona fix date
Barcelona will activate Nico Williams's release clause with Athletic Bilbao on either July 1st or 2nd, according to Sportal.
Although personal terms have already been agreed upon with the player, the Catalans will wait a week to ensure the transfer falls under the next financial year, which begins on July 1st.
Nico Williams will be a Barcelona player in time for the start of preseason training on July 13th, although he may receive an extended break due to his commitments with the Spanish national team in the Nations League. This also applies to other international players in Xavi's squad.
Barcelona is still attempting to negotiate with Athletic to pay the €58 million release clause in installments rather than a lump sum.
However, according to Mundo Deportivo, this seems unlikely given the relationship between the two clubs. As a result, Barcelona is prepared to pay the full amount.
