Barcelona make special request to Brazil head coach Ancelotti on Raphinha's behalf
Raphina was in action for Barcelona as they came back from two goals down to defeat Levante 3-2 in Saturday night's thrilling LaLiga clash.
The forward was then called up for the final South American qualifiers against Chile and Bolivia, even though the Seleção have already secured their spot at the 2026 World Cup.
Barcelona's special request
According to "Sport," via Sportal, Barcelona plans to have Raphinha released immediately after the first match.
Brazil are set to face Chile on Thursday, September 4th, at the Maracanã Stadium before travelling to El Alto to play Bolivia on Tuesday, September 9th.
While the match in Rio de Janeiro carries some prestige, the second fixture has little competitive value, as Bolivia are already out of contention.
For Barcelona, however, this trip poses a significant problem. Playing at an altitude of 4,150 meters is an extreme physical challenge and risks Raphinha returning exhausted just when he is most needed in Spain.
In light of this, Barça will negotiate with the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) and head coach Carlo Ancelotti, hoping to have Raphinha released after the match in Rio.
The Italian coach has already made a similar gesture by not calling up his former Real Madrid player, VinÃcius Júnior, for these fixtures.
VinÃcius is suspended for the Chile match, and it was therefore decided that it was pointless for him to travel for just one game, especially one of no consequence.
