Barcelona’s injury worries in midfield may finally be easing as star man Pedri edges closer to a return ahead of their upcoming fixtures against Athletic Club and Chelsea.

The 22-year-old Spaniard, who was initially ruled out for six weeks with a hamstring injury, could make his comeback earlier than expected.

Pedri’s recovery ahead of schedule

According to Diario AS, Pedri’s rehabilitation has gone better than planned, with the midfielder now recovering rapidly and nearing full fitness.

Although he was sidelined after picking up the injury in the days following Barcelona’s El Clasico defeat, the medical team has been encouraged by his response to treatment.

Hansi Flick’s staff remain cautious, not wanting to risk a setback similar to Raphinha’s earlier relapse.

While it’s unlikely Pedri will start against Athletic, the fixture could provide an opportunity to ease him back into action, setting up a potential full return against Chelsea in the Champions League three days later.

Flick handed timely midfield relief

With Frenkie de Jong and Gavi still unavailable, Pedri’s return is a massive boost for a Barcelona side that has struggled for creativity despite maintaining positive results.

In his absence, De Jong has carried much of the midfield burden, and the team’s fluidity has noticeably dipped.

Flick has managed two wins and a draw without his full-strength midfield, but Pedri’s presence could restore the control and rhythm that define Barcelona’s play.

The Spanish international’s availability, even as a substitute, would offer tactical flexibility and much-needed stability ahead of crucial clashes against Chelsea and Atletico Madrid.
