Ayub Khalifa banking on experienced pros to beat Rwanda, motivate novices

Ayub Khalifa expects the senior Uganda Crested Cranes players to lift the team over Rwanda in the 2024 Olympic qualifiers.

Uganda Crested Cranes is set to host Rwanda on July 12th before flying to Rwanda for the return leg on July 18th at the Pele Stadium.

Khalifa summoned a total of 35 players but is banking on the seven foreign-based to provide that final push with their experience.

“They (foreign-based players) come with a better experience in terms of exposure and competition,” Khalifa brimmed with confidence.

Khalifa has also expressed confidence that the seven can inspire the rest to work harder for deals abroad.

“We are proud to have them represent the country at their respective clubs and hoping more will join them in the professional ranks,” he added.

The seven include the team captain Ruth Aturo who plays for Alshabab in Saudi Arabia, Joan Nabirye (FK Minsk, Belarus) and Phiona Nabbumba (Boldklubben AF 1893, Denmark).

The others are Fauzia Najjemba (ZFK Dynamo Moscow, Russia Sandra Nabweteme (Hapoel Ironic Petah Tikva, Israel), Joanita Ainembabazi (Ceasiaa Queens FC, Tanzania) and Anita Namata, who features for Kenyan giants Vihiga Queens.
