Athletics legend Michael Johnson secures over $30,000,000 investment for new Track League
American sprint icon Michael Johnson is blazing a new trail in athletics after securing over $30,000,000 funding from investors and strategic partners for his planned league set to launch next year.
According to sportsbusinessjournal.com, Winners Alliance, the for-profit arm of the Professional Tennis Players Association is the lead investor and will be the league's operating partner.
After a legendary track career, in which he won quadruple Olympic gold medals and doubled them at the world championships, Johnson announced in February that they would launch a track series in 2025 aimed at promoting interest in the sport.
The league will include a series of events during the normal track season, which is April to September, limiting the number of events and athletes. It aims to elevate the sport's stars and rivalries between them while catering to fan interests.
The plan is to create content around those athletes to increase interest in the sport, which is one of the most popular during the Olympics every four years.
With his league now having the needed massive financial backing, Johnson took to his X page to show his excitement.
“Working to change the game for athletes and fans! League details coming this June,” he wrote.
