Ademola Lookman is set to finally get his exit from Atalanta, after La Dea reportedly accepted Atletico Madrid’s second bid for the Super Eagles ace.
The 28-year-old has been a long-time target of Los Cochoneros, but like every other suitor, they have struggled to convince the Bergamo-based club to sell, until today, with reports from Italy suggesting that the deal is close to completion.
Atletico match asking price
As Pulse Sports reported, Fenerbahçe have led the race for Lookman’s signature for most of the window. After weeks of talks and rejected informal bids, they finally reached a verbal agreement with Atalanta. The Yellow Canaries were prepared to match Atalanta’s €40 million ask (€35 million guaranteed and €5 million in add-ons). However, they could not agree on a payment structure.
Atlético Madrid moved swiftly to exploit the situation, making several calls to Atalanta as they plotted to hijack the deal. They submitted a bid worth €30 million, significantly short of La Dea’s ask; hence, they were immediately rebuffed.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Atletico, keen, returned with an improved bid which matched Atlanta’s demands, which has helped the deal advance quickly as the transfer window nears its end.]
The report states that both parties have reached an agreement for a deal in excess of €40 million, with a few details left to make the deal official. Atletico are also believed to have sent an improved salary offer to Lookman, which he is amenable to.
