Aston Villa vs Young Boys Preview

Villa started the season poorly, failing to win their opening six competitive matches, but the Villains have since turned things around and are flying high.

Emery’s men have won nine of their last 11 matches (L2) and are on a three-match winning run heading into this clash.

The two defeats they have suffered in those 11 games have been on the road, as they have been solid at home, winning 14 of their last 16 home games (D1, L1), including each of the last six.

In Europe, the Villains have won all five home games they have played in 2025, a record they will feel well-placed to stretch after Morgan Rogers’ brace secured a 2-1 win for them at Leeds United at the weekend.

Meanwhile, Young Boys also have momentum coming into this affair with two straight wins, though their last defeat was in the Europa League, a 4-0 thrashing away to PAOK.

The visitors will be more concerned about stopping Villa’s in-form attack, as they possess the worst defence in the competition at this stage with 10 goals conceded.

With a 2-0 win against FCSB on matchday two, the Swiss side have shown they could make things happen on opposition ground and they will carry that belief with them.

Aston Villa vs Young Boys head-to-head

There has only been one meeting between these sides, with Villa beating Young Boys 3-0 in September 2024 in what is also the English side’s only-ever meeting with Swiss opposition in major European competition.

The visitors, meanwhile, have met English sides in 13 meetings and have won just twice (D2, L9), failing to win any of the six on the road (D2, L4).
