Jurrien Timber has undoubtedly been properly monitored by Mikel Arteta in order to guarantee that he would hold a significant position in his Arsenal club for the 2023–24 season.

The Netherland player played right back for Ajax during the 2022–23 season, however for the Netherlands and in previous campaigns, he was used in the centre of defence.

The Gunners' new signing has made comments about the positions he can play for Mikel Arteta next season.

Timber speaks about his positions

Timber was announced as Arsenal's new signing today and he spoke to the media about the position he can play comfortably.

During an interview with Arsenal media as reported by Football London, Timber said, “For me, it doesn't really matter, I think that I'm lucky to say that I can play as a central defender, as a right full-back, sometimes even on the midfield. So I think that's a good thing and I need to keep that.

The former Ajax defender has admitted that he can play in multiple positions and it doesn't really matter to him.

On making a move to Arsenal, he said, “I just like the way Arsenal play, is a bit similar to Ajax’s style and I like to play from the back. I can see a lot of similarities, especially in the way Arsenal and Ajax want to play.”

Timber himself admitted in the video announcing his move to the Emirates Stadium the reason he decided to sign for Arsenal.

He said as reported by Football London, "I really had a sense that it had to be a team that plays in the right way. A club that has the right values. 

“That develops young talent and has an unbreakable bond with its supporters. Now that I'm here I feel at home already. Something special is happening here and I want to be a part of it."

The defender also disclosed what they discussed with Arteta., he said "I spoke to him a couple of times before I came here obviously and we had some good conversations."

The Arsenal new signing will join the team on their trip to the USA on Sunday as they continue preparation for the new season.
