Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has responded to criticism from Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney regarding his squad's frequent rotation this season.
Maresca's selection policy came under heavy scrutiny after Chelsea's underwhelming 2-2 draw against Qarabag in the UEFA Champions League earlier this week.
What Maresca said
Addressing the media ahead of Chelsea's Premier League clash with Wolves on Saturday, the Italian manager defended his approach, emphasising that making mistakes is a crucial part of the development process for his young players.
"I've said it many times: we live in an era where anyone can say what they want," Maresca stated, as reported by Football London.
He added, "I also said after the Qarabag game that since I joined the club, it has been my philosophy to rotate players."
He continued, "When you don't win, nobody agrees. When it's Andrey Santos, Jorrel Hato, and Joao Pedro, it's not just about rotation."
